Criminalisation & Punishment

In the third installment of our annotated comparisons of India's new criminal laws, our team compared the proposed Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 with the current provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.

Process

Our team prepared this annotated comparison highlighting the changes made to the Code of Criminal Procedure. This document contains two sections::

  • The First Section is a tabular comparison of the sections in the BNSS against the corresponding provisions in the CrPC
  • The Second Section annotates the BNSS and highlights text wherever:

(a) Text is borrowed from the CrPC

(b) Changes are made to the text in CrPC
