The Criminal Justice Student Fellowship is a 12-month intensive programme through which Fellows will work closely with the Clinic’s litigation, mitigation, research and communications teams.
The fellowship aims to equip the Fellows with a deep understanding of a defence-oriented criminal justice practice and meaningful exposure to the complexities of India’s criminal justice system. Fellows will engage with in-depth research and strategic thinking on criminal justice issues, undertaking independent research projects and producing outputs under the guidance of members of the Clinic.
Maitreyi Misra, Co-Founder and Director of Research and Mitigation at The Square Circle Clinic, was chosen as one of the twelve laureates for the fifth cohort of the French government’s Marianne Initiative for Human Rights Defenders. Launched in 2021, the Marianne Initiative aims to provide support to global human rights defenders who receive support and opportunities in a residential forum in France for generative discussions, building capacities, and creating meaningful collaborations.
The Square Circle Clinic is currently running the second edition of its book discussion series, 'Conversations in Criminal Law'. Organised monthly, from May 2026 to December 2026, in New Delhi, the in-person discussions bring together scholars and practitioners to engage with sociological, historical and philosophical themes in criminal law through one seminal work in the field.
The Certificate Course on Criminal Defence Practice is a Continuing Legal Education Programme, happening in Pune, is a flagship initiative by The Square Circle Clinic at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
Designed specifically for trial court lawyers, the Programme aims to strengthen criminal defence practice in district and taluka courts by bridging the gap between law school training and the practical skills required for effective criminal defence work.
