Forensic Science India Report: A Study of Forensic Science Laboratories (2013-2017)

The Forensic Science India Report: A Study of Forensic Science Laboratories (2013-2017) (FSIR) is the outcome of a first-of-its-kind study of FSLs, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The report examines the trends within India’s forensic science laboratories (FSLs) between 2013 to 2017, and the challenges facing them regarding budget and expenditure, recruitment, education and training, case management, infrastructure and quality management. It also documents the narratives of forensic scientists collected through field visits. 30 FSLs across 20 states and union territories participated in this study.

Led by Shreya Rastogi (now, the Director of Litigation and of Forensic Science at The Square Circle Clinic, NALSAR) while she was with Project 39A, National Law University (Delhi), the Report emphasises the need to regulate FSLs in India and provides a comprehensive set of recommendations on strengthening the Indian forensic science system.
